Closer Than You Think campaign conference
Thursday 28 – Friday 29 July 2005
Poverty and social exclusion are poorly understood in Australia, and compared to the early 1970s poverty in this country is now more widespread and inequality is greater.
The Closer Than You Think campaign conference on 28 and 29 July 2005 engaged, informed and galvanised key members of the community, employment and political arenas; social welfare experts from around Australia; educators; politicians; social workers, and members of the community who are themselves affected by poverty.
A draft blueprint to eliminate poverty in South Australia was presented at the conference, and input from conference delegates over those two days is being incorporated into a final Blueprint to be released by SACOSS in September. This Blueprint will then shape the continuing direction of the Closer Than You Think campaign.
